Military Modelling

By John Cross
When last I saw the range of wargame figures produced by MINIATURE
FIGURINES LTD., I thought that they must have produced nearly
every soldier, both ancient and modern, that it was possible
to create for the wargame enthusiast. How mistaken I was!
Their list of figures grows surprisingly ever larger, and
they are currently extending their line of Napoleonic figures,
plus embarking on two completely new combatants - Spanish
and Portugese. The range of vehicles for this period is also
being greatly extended and includes a Caisson, Ammunition
Wagon, Larrey's Ambulance, etc.
The range of figures for the Ancient period has also grown,
and includes new Roman figures, Gauls, Franks, Picts, etc.;
and work is currently going on with the production of Barbarians
Sassanids, together with other warriors.
Another completely new extention to this very complete range
of wargame figures are XVI Century infantry, which includes
such figures as Landsknechts, Janissaries, Swiss Pikemen;
in fact a whole gamut of some of the least known figures of
this very colourful period.

If the individual wargamer cannot find any subject
that suits his particular fancy in this very comprehensive
range available, then I doubt if he ever will. Beginners to
wargaming should avail themselves of the catalogue and price
list, which includes such snippets of information as the compositions
of armies, regiments, etc.; general colour detail for field
pieces, plus the colouring of the uniforms of the various
armies. This may be obtained from MINIATURE FIGURINES LTD.,
5 Northram Road, Southampton, S02 ONZ.
The latest figures sent for review all live up to the standard
one expects from Miniature Figurines, but one in particular
stands out above the rest. This is a figure of a Janissary
Musketeer, which is nicely proportioned and detailed and makes
a most attractive figure. The remainder are:

A completely new innovation from Miniature Figurines is a
house magazine. This contains a mass of information on the
painting of figures from the English Civil War through to
a Tank Crewman of W.W.l. There is a section devoted to painting
for beginners, and a very useful article on the Colours of
the French Regiments in Canada, 1758. The magazine also includes
a section on future and new production from Miniature Figurines.
No price was stated, but it certainly appears to be a very
handy little book for the tyro, particularly if the standard
of this first issue can be maintained, which includes six
black and white plates which complements the written descriptions.
